Blackmagic Design took advantage of the publicity at IBC 2024 in Amsterdam, Holland to announce pricing and availability for its URSA Cine 17K 65 camera.
The new and professionally powerful digital cinema camera is a large format model with a 65mm RGBW sensor and video recording at a hefty 17K resolution.
Obviously, this camera is aimed at buyers way beyond the home studio market in terms of budget and its promise for high-end studio productions is exceptional video quality and workflow integration.
Internally, the new URSA camera’s 17K sensor outputs a resolution of 17,520 x 8,040 pixels and offers 16 stops of dynamic range. This latter spec gives the camera extremely robust color quality and accuracy. It also provides rich detail under both bright and low light conditions.
The URSA Cine 17K 65 LF has been designed with interchangeable lens mounts that let it support PL, LPL and Hasselblad optics. It also comes with the kind of connectivity that you might expect from a fully professional cinematic production camera.
Blackmagic’s CEO, Grant Petty comments,
“Blackmagic URSA Cine 17K 65 is the realization of our dream to build a camera that integrates seamlessly into high-end workflows from capture to post. Its 65mm sensor, industry-standard connections, and powerful post-production integration will revolutionize how productions operate.”
Other key features and specifications of the camera include an internal 8TB Blackmagic Media Module, recording in Blackmagic RAW with support for a whole range of resolutions from 4K up to its maximum output of 17K and connectivity specs that include 10G Ethernet, USB-C, XLR audio, and 12G-SDI out.
The URSA Cine 17K 65 LF also has two 5-inch HDR touchscreens built into it for easy usability. These are further complemented by an external status LCD screen.
Live streaming in the camera includes integrated RTMP and SRT streaming capabilities and the camera also offers post-production integration through a direct sync with Blackmagic’s Cloud and DaVinci Resolve.
Also worth noting is that Blackmagic has stated that the camera can capture still shots too, just like its URSA 12K cousins do.
Included with the camera is a top handle, baseplate, antennas, and further accessories for production use.
Since this is a pro-level cinema production camera, it’s far from what most indie video creators would consider affordable. Blackmagic is pricing the URSA Cine 17K 65 LF at $29,995 and it’s now available for preorder.
