Canon USA Claims To Be The Clear Winner Of 2024

Canon has released its 2024 financial results and claimed to be the number one camera sales company in the USA, with the Canon EOS R6 II taking the top spot.

The recent press release delved deeper into the specific categories that Canon claimed victory, including interchangeable lens cameras, mirrorless cameras, and full-frame mirrorless cameras.

It’s important to understand that the first-place ribbon hasn’t been decided by an industry body but rather by Canon.

Canon EOS R6 II Takes Top Spot

Canon’s EOS R6 II is an enthusiast-friendly full-frame digital mirrorless camera boasting a 24.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor, sensor-shift 5-axis image stabilization, and responsive Dual Pixel CMOS AF II focusing system.

It’s no surprise the R6 II took the top spot, given its impressive specs, reliable performance, and affordable price tag.

Regarding the self-appointed best and fairest ribbons, Canon has boldly claimed:

Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions is proud to announce that the EOS R6 Mark II was the top selling full-frame camera in the U.S. in 2024 and Canon has solidified the number one spot in multiple categories for cameras and lenses in the U.S.

Canon isn’t just claiming a winning position for interchangeable, mirrorless, and full-frame mirrorless cameras. The brand also claims several other categories, including full-frame cameras, lenses, and mirrorless lenses.

Imagine if, during the Olympics, a swimmer marched from the pool to the podium and took the gold medal without waiting for the final results from the adjudicators.

To be fair, Canon has enjoyed a stellar year financially and with new product developments.

In 2024, Canon released several industry-leading, pro-grade products, including the flagship Canon EOS R1, the powerhouse EOS R5 II, and the RF 24mm f/1.4 L VCM and RF 50mm f/1.4 L VCM lenses.

As for the financial outcomes of 2024, here’s a snippet from the Canon financial report.

In the Imaging Business Unit, although there was a period of adjustment in the inventory of interchangeable lens digital cameras at the beginning of the year, the new EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II introduced in the second half of the year sold well, as did the entry models EOS R50 and EOS R100. Sales of network cameras also increased for the year as sales recovered from the second quarter when inventory adjustments were carried out. As a result of these factors, total sales increased by 8.8% year-on-year to ¥937.4 billion (US$6.85 billion), and income before income taxes increased by 5.4% year-on-year to ¥154.3 billion (US$1.17 billion).

There’s no denying the popularity and reliability of Canon digital mirrorless cameras and the brand loyalty associated with the Japanese imaging giant.

It remains to be seen if Sony’s financial year results and sales figures will propel the brand to contest first place.
