What Is Luminar Neo

Luminar Neo provides a suite of pro-grade AI-powered editing tools, enabling commercial, wedding, and event photographers to have a streamlined and powerful platform for end-to-end workflow management.

Luminar Neo Spring 2025 Update Features

The enhancements included in the Spring 2025 update deliver more than a few surface-level tweaks to creative outcomes.

The Neo update further optimises creative, functional, and workflow management performance.

NEW YORK, NY – April 24, 2025 – Skylum, a leading innovator in photo editing software, is excited to announce the Spring update for its award-winning program, Luminar Neo. This latest release introduces powerful tools and improvements designed to streamline workflow, optimize performance, and enhance creative possibilities for photographers of all skill levels.

Skylum’s Spring update addresses user feedback and opportunities revealed by previous iterations of the software.

Above all else, Skylum has leveraged AI-enhanced tools and performance to deliver some impressive improvements.

Auto Adjust – Effortless Image Enhancement

The Luminar Neo Spring update delivers one of the most significant enhancements to the editing and workflow management software.

Auto Adjust is now available as part of the Develop and Develop RAW editing toolkit.

As the name suggests, Neo uses AI learning to evaluate an image and automatically edit the core compositional and lighting elements, including exposure, highlight and shadow balance, and black and white levels.

Auto Adjust instantly selects the best exposure settings and moves the designated sliders – as a result, you can fine-tune the exposure and lighting values manually from there.

While all the other new Neo features are included free in the Spring update, Auto Adjust requires an Upgrade Pass at an additional cost.

Alternatively, if you are a Pro Subscriber, the Auto Adjust feature is included.

Catalogue Cache Cleaning – Optimised Performance

Skylum has optimized the overall performance of Luminar Neo to deliver faster processing, improved performance, and better outcomes.

Regardless of your software of choice, if you spend a lot of time editing images, you’ll know that one of the biggest frustrations is waiting for image previews to load.

Depending on the file size and volume of previews, loading time can slow down as you add more and more images to your catalogue.

Photographers working on large-scale commercial jobs, events, and weddings will continue to add thousands of images each week to their catalogue.

Skylum has listened to user feedback and has introduced a new Catalog Cache Cleaning feature within Neo.

Located within the Preferences menu, Catalogue Cache Cleaning is designed to optimize disk space, especially for those working on large-volume jobs.

The Catalogue Cache Cleaning feature is a simple and efficient menu option that also highlights the disk volume to be recovered.

It’s not a groundbreaking feature, but it makes a significant difference in overall performance and processing speeds, especially when working with an older computer or physical hard drives.

Depth Models Update – Even More Realistic Fog Effect

In the Spring 2025 Update, Skylum has delivered improvements to the Atmosphere AI toolkit, including a more realistic fog effect.

Rather than apply a simple haze to the overall surface of the image, Neo’s new Fog Effect adds a three-dimensional layer to place fog within the image.

Neo’s AI-powered process evaluates the image and intuitively adds layers of fog to a landscape or cityscape image. It detects foreground and midground elements and adjusts the application of fog accordingly.

The fog effect is selectively placed in areas where it looks natural and believable.

While the newly updated Fog Effect tool is somewhat limited to landscape scenery, it’s a powerful application that enhances the compositional value of a scene.

Improved Export Menu – Enhanced Customization

A file save dialog is open on a desktop, showing format options for saving an image as PNG, with resolution set to 240 pixels/inch and the Save button highlighted.

As part of the Luminar Neo Spring Update, the software has also received improvements to the Export Menu.

The standout improvement is the ability to now export files in DNG format, making the file ideal for print output.

In addition to the new DNG export option, the Export menu has also been updated with customisation options, including format, quality, size, resolution, and file name.

Luminar Neo Spring Update Availability

The Spring Update for Skylum’s Luminar Neo is now available, launching on April 24, 2025.

It’s essential to note that all the above features and improvements are available at no additional cost.

However, Auto Adjust is only available to Skylum’s Pro-level subscribers and anyone with an Upgrade Pass.

Luminar Neo is a highly versatile workflow management and image editing application that functions as a standalone product or as a plugin with Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, or as an extension for Photos on macOS.

Neo is available through a Lifetime purchase plan or an annual subscription. Check out the Luminar Neo pricing options here.
